Hear Mexican president’s response to Trump’s tariff threat
Trump tariffs will bring ‘severe storm’: former Mexican negotiator | Power & Politics
The US has threatened its both neighbors with a 25% duty on all goods being imported to the USA, which is a confusing idea coming from a supposed businessman who is now showing how little he understands economics, and in particular the current agreement signed by the three countries under his own personal supervision during his first presidential term.
The elected US president Donald Trump appears to be shouting slogans as a continuation to the electoral campaign, although that has already ended. While the Mexican side has been firm in gathering proper arguments to convince the US president of how much damage his demands could be to the US side, with up to 400,000 jobs lost in the USA after the application of the punishing duties, the Canadian side has been more adept at blaming Mexico, and then rushing to the US president's home to offer him all submission.
However, the Canadian press is commenting on the different approaches realizing the dignity of Canada is being violated by Trump calling it its 51st state, while Mexico is instead attempting to defend Canada and its pride.
